This Sunday plans were well executed for a visit to the slum. After deciding the works to be carried out our group headed towards to the slums located by the NH-5. The living condition was very poor, they don't even have a proper road connecting them. Sanitation is too poor along with their financial conditions. The people there are still fighting with the state government for the subsidies meant for them.
We tried to reach each and every person and inquired about their health conditions, the regularity of water supply and the income of the families. The data collected surprised us, few families had more than 10 members residing in a house of single room. Most of the children dropped studies after 10th grade. People hardly know anything thing about sanitation. They have got a Municipal waterline connection but they are solely dependent on the slum's central well. Dengue and typhoid are the most common diseases there.
After seeing all these our whole team was moved and decided to implement few of the protective measures to eradicate the Sanitation problems but still the main question is left unanswered... Where are the government officials??
Finally, we have decided to help those people on our own stake. Next visit we will be trying to help the needy ones from the slum and help the children learn few skills that can give them a chance to earn a livelihood.
